Hip Replacement Surgery: What Can I Expect?

OrthoInfo Podcast: Season 1, Episode 3

In this episode of the OrthoInfo podcast, Mary K. Mulcahey, MD, FAAOS, is joined by adult reconstruction surgeon Neil Sheth, MD, FAAOS, to help people who need or are considering a hip replacement understand what to expect — from preparation to the day of surgery to long-term outcomes. Dr. Sheth will answer some of the common questions he gets from patients about return to activities, whether they should be concerned about the metal used in hip implants, and how long hip implants are expected to last.

For people with hip pain and other symptoms who aren't sure whether to see a doctor, Dr. Sheth explains when it's time to get help and which type of specialist to see initially given that several types of orthopaedic specialists treat hip problems.

Host: Mary K. Mulcahey, MD, FAAOS, Professor and Chief of Sports Medicine, Loyola University Medical Center

Guest:  Neil Sheth, MD, FAAOS, Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital and the Abramson Family Endowed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
