Prevent Scooter-Related Injuries

The popular new version of the foot-propelled scooter has taken the United States by storm. They are lightweight and can be folded for easy portability. As sales soar, so do the injuries related to scooters.

The key to remember is that many scooter injuries are preventable if you follow these safety tips:

  • Children under age 8 should not be using scooters.
  • Learn the basic skills of the sport.
  • Understand how the steering and brakes operate.
  • Wear a helmet, wrist protectors and knee and elbow pads.
  • Wear proper shoes.
  • Avoid riding downhill on steep hills, slippery/uneven surfaces and crowded walkways/streets.
  • Don't operate a scooter at night.
  • Avoid tricks and stunts.
